What a harness actually does
It is outerwear, not underwear. A harness sits over a shirt, dress or coat and adds structure where the garment has none: it breaks a plain black silhouette into panels, pulls a loose top into shape, and gives the eye hardware to land on. That is why most are sold with adjustable straps rather than in fixed sizes.

Fit
Harnesses are sized by strap range rather than by garment size, so measure over the clothes you intend to wear them with, not against bare skin. Most chest styles adjust across ten to fifteen centimetres. Check the stated range on the product page if you plan to wear one over a coat.

- Over. It is a layering piece designed to be seen, which is why the hardware is finished on both sides.
- Are harnesses unisex?
- Most chest and full-body designs are, since they adjust at several points. Garter and leg harnesses are cut for a narrower thigh range.

- Through the shoulder and side sliders. Fit it over the garment you will wear it with, then tighten until it holds without pulling the fabric.
