With coronavirus slowly fading away, we’re all eager to get back to our social lives, especially for those of us who are complete party animals ! Whether it will be this year or the next, festivals are slowly returning - so we’ve decided to list the 6 biggest gothic and alternative subculture festivals in the world. Wave Gothic Treffen - Germany
Wave-Gotik-Treffen is an annual world festival for alternative music and arts in Leipzig, Germany. Featuring hundreds of bands and artists from alternative genres such as Gothic Rock, Metal or Industrial who play at several venues throughout the city over 4 days. The festival also features several fairs with medieval, gothic and cultural merchandise. With over 15 000 regular attendants coming from all over the world, the WGT is one of the largest events of the Goth, Cybergoth, Steampunk and Rivethead subcultures worldwide.
Whitby Goth Weekend - United Kingdom
Whitby Goth Weekend is a twice-yearly music festival for goths, in Whitby, North Yorkshire, England. It has grown into one of the world’s most popular goth music events attracting around 1,500+ attendees from across the UK and beyond. The main event is held in the town’s largest venue Whitby Spa Pavilion and the Bizarre Bazaar ‘Goth Market’ is also held there and at Whitby Leisure Centre and the Brunswick Centre.
M’era Luna Festival - Germany
The M’era Luna is a festival of goth, metal and industrial music. It is held annually on the second weekend every August, in Hildesheim, on a former British Army airbase. The M’era Luna includes camping facilities and has two stages: a large rock festival style structure, erected for the show each year, and a former aircraft hangar. With over 20 000 regular attendants coming from all over the world, the M’era Luna is one of the biggest dark music events in Germany.
Eccentrik - United States
The Eccentrik Festival is an annual 3-day Goth and industrial music festival held in North Carolina area. Musical styles typically featured at Eccentrik include deathrock, psychobilly, gothic rock, industrial, post-punk, dark cabaret, steampunk, synthpop and other related genres. The festival is also notable for its party-like atmosphere, the pre-festival meet n’ greet, art show, and a dancefloor featuring goth, deathrock, industrial, steampunk and post-punk DJs from around the US.
Bats Day In The Fun Park - United States
Bats Day in the Fun Park is an annual weekend-long event held in Anaheim, California. Now in its 17th Market, where vendors hawk Goth wares; a costumed ball with a haunted-house theme; art shows; and a daylong trip to Disneyland that includes a scavenger hunt and group photo in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle. If you’re a Goth and a Disney fan, this one will be perfect for you !
