Mini dresses: length, layering and fit
Layering is assumed
Almost every mini here is cut on the assumption that something goes underneath: opaque tights, fishnets or leggings. That affects the length the designer chose, which is why the shortest styles look shorter on the hanger than they wear. Garment length from shoulder to hem is stated in centimetres on each product page.
| Style | Hem | Layer with | Fabric |
|---|---|---|---|
| Corset dress | Upper thigh | Tights | PU, brocade |
| Skater | Mid thigh | Tights, shorts | Jersey, mesh |
| Bodycon | Upper thigh | Tights | Stretch, PU |
| Pinafore | Mid thigh | Mesh top, tights | Twill, denim |
Sizing
Cut close through the bodice, so bust and waist both have to work. Corset-back styles give several centimetres of adjustment; zip-back bodycon styles give none. Asian sizing runs roughly one size below EU and US.
Frequently asked
- Are the mini dresses very short?
- They are cut on the assumption that tights are worn underneath. Garment length in centimetres is stated on each product page.
- What is a pinafore dress?
- A sleeveless dress worn over a top, usually a mesh or long-sleeved one, rather than on its own.
- Which styles are most forgiving on fit?
- Corset-back and skater cuts. Zip-back bodycon styles have no adjustment.
- Do PunkRave mini dresses run small?
- Yes, around one size below EU and US, and more through the bodice.
